QBFS Reacts: Eagles sign Julio Jones
Julio Jones re-joins AJ Brown in a dynamic Eagles lineup. 🦅 🏈 #NFL
Of all the things I thought the eagles needed, a wide receiver was pretty low on that need list. But today, Howie Roseman and your Philadelphia Eagles signed veteran wide receiver, Julio Jones.
Julio Jones, hailing from Foley, Alabama, etched a lasting legacy in the NFL throughout his more than a decade-long career. Drafted sixth overall by the Atlanta Falcons in 2011, he swiftly ascended to become one of the league's premier wide receivers, amassing numerous Pro Bowl selections and leading the league in receiving yards multiple times. In 2021, Jones embarked on a new chapter with the Tennessee Titans, where he joined forces with a familiar receiver: AJ Brown. In 2022, he played 10 games catching balls thrown by Tom Brady in Tampa Bay, including the first-ever touchdown scored in an NFL game played in Germany. And in 2023, he rejoins AJ Brown in Philly.
Realistically, Julio is the 7th option on Philly's offense behind AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Jalen Hurts, D'Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell. He brings experience, professionalism, and he still has great hands.
I think it’s a good signing. They needed another WR. Are there other positions that need to be addressed? Absolutely. Julio is a low risk, high reward signing. They didn’t give anything up for him, nor did they spend stupid money on signing him. Look, he’s not the Julio he used to be in Atlanta, but he’s a veteran player with experience in big games like the playoffs and Super Bowl.
I assume he will mainly be used for red zone targets, which the Eagles have struggled with this season. He’s just going to go up and get those jump passes from Hurts in the end zone (hopefully). He’s better than any other option at WR3 the Eagles have right now. Yea he doesn’t have the Quez Watkins speed or the spring in his step that the youthful WRs do but hey, it’s still Julio fucking Jones.
And hey, if he sucks, then they can just cut his ass. No big deal. I’m almost positive Howie is not done making moves before this trade deadline at the end of the month. He knows they need players at multiple positions. It’s highly unlikely he sits on his hands and lets this go the way it is. Especially the year after a Super Bowl appearance. Expectations are high. He's been around long enough to know that.
