Way Way Way Too Early Eagles 3 Round Mock Draft

Way Way Way Too Early Eagles 3 Round Mock Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles season is over, but the drama is far from finished.

Jim Schwartz is on his way out, taking his vanilla, albeit mostly effective defensive scheme with him. To the dismay of many fans it appears Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson will be returning to the organization, but there is an air around the NovaCare center that points to more shakeups coming on the coaching staff and in the front office.

Multiple reports, on top of a heartbreaking image of Zach Ertz, Jason Kelce and Carson Wentz sitting together on the field hours after the loss to Washington; has many fans thinking this is the end of the three stalwarts time here.

Add in the fact that the team is currently 70 million over the projected salary cap and the Birds are staring down the barrel of a full scale rebuild.

But there is a glimmer of hope..........

It appears we have our CB1 in Darius Slay and K’Von Wallace showed he can be a steady option at safety in his limited playing time.

Alex Singleton looks like a true diamond in the rough.

Jordan Mailata, Jack Driscoll and Nate Herbig looked like revelations on the offensive line.

Josh Sweat looked like a real contributor all season long and showed flashes of brilliance.

Travis Fulgham was a pleasant surprise and there is a hope he can play up to the potential he showed.

Dallas Goedert looked primed to take over the TE1 spot posting 3 TDs and over 500 yards in only 9 games.

And of course the Eagles #6 draft slot and their full compliment of picks. The draft is a time of hope, a new chance to change the present and future of your roster for the better, a new chance to not draft another JJ Arcega Whiteside.......

Ok so maybe the eagles don’t have the best track record with the draft over the last five years, but like Rocky Balboa said after simultaneously defeating Ivan Drago and communism “If I can change, and you can change... EVERYBODY CAN CHANGE!!”

Anyway this is the way too damn early mock draft

Round 1

Patrick Surtain Jr

CB Alabama

The 6’2 203lb corner has the body type, the pedigree, and the ball skills that make a scout salivate. Add in the fact that he has went heads up with 4 first round WRs in practice (Jeudy,Ruggs,Smith,Waddle) and excelled over the last two seasons as a CB1 at a top flight school in a conference with plentiful playmakers, you have the makings of a consensus top 10 lock.

No matter the in game situation he always seems even keel and relaxed. He uses his hands better than anyone in the country, has the closing speed and fluid hips to keep up with even the fastest of WRs, and his ball skills are second to none. He won’t put up the flashy interception numbers, but that is a product of his discipline and reluctance to take unnecessary chances. For a team that is dying for a CB to pair with Slay this pick almost makes too much sense.

Round 2

Terrance Marshall jr

WR LSU

The silky smooth 6’3 200lb WR from LSU has been the man lost in the shuffle over his two stand out years at LSU. From a draft coverage perspective he’s taken a backseat to teammates Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase but he has all of the tools to be a true number one. He runs his routes with fluidity and crispness, he attacks the ball at its high point, has excellent body control and is able to adjust to make the most difficult catches. His production won’t make your jaw drop; but that is a product of being the third option in 2019, having a severe drop off in QB play this past season and opting out of the last few of the Tigers games. He has the size and speed combination that coaches love to see, and a catch radius reminiscent of Larry Fitzgerald. Whether he falls to the Birds in the 2nd round really depends on his workout, but if he did the eagles could have a stud for the next 7-10 years.

Round 3

Shaka Toney

Pass Rusher Penn State

The Eagles have always valued the defensive line. Even with the emergence of Josh Sweat and the productivity they got from the line this year they still have a need at pass rusher that is flying under the radar. Outside of Sweat Brandon Graham is 32, Vinny Curry will most likely not return, and Barnett didn’t have his 5th year option exercised; so the position group is looking very thin. In comes Shaka Toney. He is a Philly kid who stayed in the state to attend PSU. While they had a very disappointing season Toney was apart of a dominant lions front 7 that included 202  2nd round pick Gross-Matos and the consensus best LB in the country Micah Parsons. Toney is an impressive natural athlete with a sky high motor and a quick twitch you can’t teach. He has a great first step and a nice set of moves at the point of attack. He can be a bit of an over-pursuer which leads to some having concern about his viability as a 3 down player but that is a concern that can be coached up; his natural gifts such as long arms, aggressiveness and sub 4.6 40 can not be taught. He’d slide right in to the rotation and learn from Brandon Graham, one of the best run defenders in football. He has true double digit sack potential and could be a welcomed addition to an already talented pass rush.
