Wentz Trade is the Exclamation Point on The Eagles Futility.

Wentz Trade is the Exclamation Point on The Eagles Futility.

Well it finally happened, the Eagles have traded their 33 million dollar man. In a long expected move, Philadelphia traded Carson Wentz to Indianapolis for a song and a dance. A 3rd round pick this year and a conditional 2nd round pick in the 2022 draft is all they could muster for a player, who outside of this year, has been nothing short of great. Even with his desire to be moved, the Eagles got a mere pittance compared to the investment the organization made in him. After giving up a kings ransom of picks in 2016 and giving Carson a huge contract last season, they got pennies on the dollar.

This self proclaimed “quarterback factory” has found a way to make the Carson Wentz era turn into arguably the biggest Philadelphia sports catastrophe of the 21st century. But if there is a silver lining, this ordeal just goes to show the incompetence that permeates through this teams front office.

A team that looked like a force for the next decade was single handedly derailed by Howie Roseman and Jeff Lurie’s meddling hands. Sadly it doesn’t appear that will change anytime soon. Trading away Wentz while shopping Zach Ertz and Darius Slay signals a full scale rebuild; and it is hard to have faith that this will be a quick turn around with the level of incompetence this front office has displayed since Superbowl 52.

In a matter of three years this team went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, and the number one culprit in the fall from grace sits securely in the front office. He has undeserved cache for winning a Super Bowl with a team that was constructed by Andy Reid and Chip Kelly’s draft picks. Howie Roseman has been nothing short of a catastrophe in every facet since the 2017 offseason.

On draft night he is constantly trying to be the smartest man in the room. It has left the team bereft of talent. Over the last four drafts the Eagles could realistically have Justin Jefferson, DK Metcalf, Marlon Humphrey, Joe Mixon and Jeremy Chinn. Instead they got Jalen Reagor, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Derek Barnett, Sidney Jones, and Jalen Hurts. I think that speaks for itself.

He has squandered cap space, handing out overpriced deals to Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Malik Jackson, and Jason Peters; while letting a stalwart like Malcolm Jenkins walk over pennies.

His mismanagment of the  franchise quarterback may be the biggest transgression of them all. After handing Carson a recors setting deal, Wentz put this organization on his back for a playoff push. He took a team lacking any talent, due to Howie's terrible decisions, to a divison title, and Howie repays him by using a 2nd round pick to draft a quarterback. Slapping Carson in the face after he finally established himself as “the man” once more. Finally putting a big red bow on the futility by trading Carson away for pennies on the dollar. One bad season in an otherwise sparkling career was all it took to ship him out of town for a draft pick that will most likely be used on a subpar talent.

It could be nepotism, Lurie has stated that “Howie is like my son”. It could be attachment to this teams lone championship. Or it could be pure idiocy  on Jeff’s part; but he is obviously blind to the fact that Howie has run this team into the ground.

As long as Roseman is at the helm,  this team will mire in mediocrity or be downright bad. Knowing the present and future of this team is in his hands is disconcerting to say the least. As fans we can only pray for the best, but it feels like the team is heading into dark times we haven’t seen since the turn of the century. Buckle up everyone this will be a rocky ride, let’s just hope it’s not another 60 years till our next championship.
